Simplify The Message

November 5, 2008

Stu Phillips of Ridgelift Ventures has an excellent post titled The Other Side of Cost Cutting.

As a VC, the obvious focus of Stu’s is the burn rate and survival of start ups in this rather perilous economic time. But many essentials of that post, namely revenue generation squarely affect all of us in the small business / medium business space.

* Make it easy for your customers to find you!
* Describe yourself the way your customer describes YOU
* Use plain language, don’t define a complex category

If you have been reading this blog for a while, you know that there have been many posts relating to making it easier for customers to find you.

My reason for posting this?

Many managers think of anything related to the geeky ‘Web’ as only IT Stuff. (if they think about it at all)

But as Stu Phillips points out, it is your customers – that is your business not just your IT. So you must be having that conversation.

If you are an established SMB, the consequences may not be as dire, but this should be your call to action

If you are a Manager in the SMB space, read that Stu Phillips post!
