SMB IT and the Best Before Date

November 10, 2008

Unlike milk and eggs, there is no cast in stone best before date in IT.

That means that the cheapo little software application that you had somebody whip up for a particular pain point will probably be there for many years to come.

In fact, over the years, little extra bits may be cobbled into that first one.

Eventually untangling that bowl of spaghetti is more pain than you can imagine.

So Remember

You may have a hazy idea that sometime in the future you may redo that little piece of software code properly.

But you won’t.

It will still be painfully chugging along, well after its best before date.
